Importance of a Tribe…

Posted by SierraRanch on March 16, 2010

Some friends of mine have started a new site, Girly Gazatte. The site is about how women need to have positive relationships with other women, mostly. They have lots of cool articles about motherhood, fashion and many other things that make you think.

In their kick off week they posted an article about who is in your tribe. You can read it here.

I had left a comment about who I thought was in my tribe. I have a group of ladies that I have devoted a great deal of my time to in the past and I thought they would always be there for me. However, last weekend I had something happen that makes me question that.

I realize that relationships take some nurturing and work. However, I guess I may have not nurtured that relationship as much as I should have in the last year. Our family inherited a business and as any of you know that own a business the first year is often the most trying. So I have not been around for my friends as much as I used to be. Now understand that I had spent 7 years as the leader and resigned a couple of years ago to help raise my step kids. Our family was still quite involved with the group.

Our family helped with a couple of functions a year providing entertainment. Last year they came to me and said they would like to try something different at one function, and I understood. It was business and they needed to be able to pull a crowd. My hubby didn’t understand and took it kinda personal. I discussed this with the group. I chalked this up to male egoism.

Then last week we offered to provide entertainment for the function we did last year and possibly the other one. I sent an email explaining the issue that that we would be giving up a gig at the new business to do these functions. I got no response. Then later in the week got a group email stating that someone else was hired.

I felt confused. On one hand I understand it’s business. On the other hand just one email would have made me feel that they understood and show me the path they wanted to take. I don’t expect to get every gig. I don’t expect much. An email letting me know they received mine and wanted to do something different would have been the nice thing.

Needless to say this really makes me question who is in my tribe? Who has my back? Who will be there when I need something or someone? How much does a tribe need to be nurtured? Do tribes change as you move to different places in your life? Do you need a sub-tribe for work friends, mom friends, fun friends, etc.?

I have never been one to have tons of friends, kinda is part of being a nerdy engineering kinda gal. Most of my tribe growing up and through school were guys. So dealing with a group of ladies has always been interesting, but kinda thought I had made headway. Gives me some new perspective.

So how do you nurture your tribe?

Happenings at Sierra Ranch!

We have naother truck for sale.  The 18yo decided it was way so not fun to work and pay us back for the truck, so we reposessed it.  :P   Check it out on Craig’s List at :  http://tinyurl.com/SR1993Ford

She also got her phone turned off.  Line will be canceled since we met out contract obligation on Tuesday.  Just one more thing done.

We got good news:  Rick should be getting his Class 7 FFL (meaning he can sell and manufacture firearms) in the next few weeks.  He met with the ATF on Friday and got everything hashed out.  I can hardly wait for him to begin this new career in full force.  We have the back bedroom set up as the gun room and he works in there most weeknights and on weekends.  You can see the gun room on the Rijas Services blog at:  http://rijasservice.com/blog

We are still trying to sell his Dad’s house in Angleton Tx.  Know of anyone wanting bayou front property in S TX with access to the water, dock, boat ramp, boat house, and nice living areas check it out at:  http://tinyurl.com/155Bastrop

Well, best get.  Need to do some website updating.  Add stuff to the Rijas Store.  And a million other things that DON’T including going outside or riding.  And have a quiet house.  We took the 15yo to her mom’s for the weekend.  Seems almost odd not to have kids around.  Hope you have a wonderful weekend and stay COOL!

A Prayer When In Financial Trouble
But my God shall supply all your needs according to
his riches in glory.—Philippians 4:19

God, help me to straighten out my financial
problems. Release Your Godly wisdom so that
I may be a good steward over all that
You have given me. If my problems seem beyond repair,
help me find a way, Your way, to meet my obligations.
I place this need before You, knowing that You
will guide me to a good solution.
Please grant me the patience and tolerance
necessary to calm my spirit and help me to
remember that You have everything
under Your control and I have nothing to fear or worry.
Amen.prayerdesign4

Hoep you have a blessed day!

An Old Farmer’s Advice

Posted by SierraRanch on June 22, 2009

Farmer

* Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

* Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

* Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

* A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

* Words that soak into your ears are whispered…not yelled.

* Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight.

* Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.

* Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

* It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.

* You cannot unsay a cruel word.

* Every path has a few puddles.

* When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

* The best sermons are lived, not preached.

* Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.

* Don’t judge folks by their relatives.

* Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

* Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get Older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.

* Don’t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t bothering you none.

* Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

* If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.

* Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

* The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from The mirror every mornin’.

* Always drink upstream from the herd.

* Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

* Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.

* If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.

* Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Sounds like words to live by to me.  Hope you enjoyed!

Happy Monday!

My Motivation…

Posted by SierraRanch on June 7, 2009

06-07-09_1007

This is the Rah (it’s hard to spell, but the noise she makes when she talks).  She loves laying on my desk, but won’t cooperate as to where she should lay.  She loves two things at this location:  the heat from my desk lamp and the heat from the laptop fan.  I scrunch her over away from the keyboard and mouse and she inches her way back.

What does this have to do with motivation?  When one is not really motivated to work a purring sleeping cat is motivation to go back to bed.  Not great motivation to do anything.

Then there is the whole trying to mouse with a cat’s head on your mousing hand.  She somehow thinks I should move it much and just be her pillow.  Again.  Not the greatest motivation to work.

Course she is a good stress reliever.  Who can be stressed when you have this lovable cat purring every time you stroke her.  Well, that is until she decides to bite.  She is an evil cat sometimes.

Well, she has left now so I best get back to solving all our problems, creating websites and making some money!  Have a great Sunday!  Me and Rah will.
